Girl's
Cricket with Hornsby District Cricket Club (HDCC) starts at the
Cric-Hit and In2CRICKET levels. The In2CRICKET program is designed
for girls and boys aged 5-8 and effectively replaces the old Kanga
Cricket and Have-a-Go Cricket. The Cric-Hit program is specifically
designed for girls in the 8-14 years age groups as part of a girl’s
only introduction to cricket.
We
are is organising a Cric-Hit program this year with assistance from
Cricket NSW commencing in September and finishing in mid October,
just before the Girls season starts in late October. Both the
in2CRICKET and Cric-Hit programs are designed for girl's and are an
ideal way to be introduced to Cricket in non-competitive surroundings
combining skills development, fitness and fun. They are also a great
way to meet other girls with a similar interest in Cricket.
From
these introductory programs, girls can then move into competition
cricket. The club has teams in both the Northern Sydney Girls
Cricket Association (NSGCA) ‘softball’ and ‘hardball’
competitions played on Saturday afternoons from October to March. The
‘softball’ competition is aimed at the inexperienced primary
school-age girl and uses an Incrediball which is softer than a
standard cricket ball. This competition is competitive, however
there is an added focus on skills development, teamwork and
inclusion. The ‘Hardball’ competition is aimed at girls 12–16yrs
and, whilst also inclusive, there is more emphasis towards the
tactical and competitive side of the game. Most games are played
locally, with our home ground located at Berry Park, Mt Colah, where
we play every 2nd week. The club also has training once a week on
Fridays at Montview Oval, Hornsby Heights from 4.30 – 6.00pm where
girls from all teams attend.
In
2007-2008 our girls had a very successful year. The ‘Softball’
girl’s team won their competition and the 2 teams entered in the
‘Hardball’ competition both made the semi finals, with the ‘Gold’
team crowned Premiers after beating a very strong Warringah team in
the final – who had been unbeaten all year. 2007-08 Hardball Premiers
Additionally
2 girls from the club were selected to represent the NSGCA in the
U13s Mollie Dive Shield team which went on to win the NSW
representative title, and 5 girls were selected in the NSGCA U15s
Margaret Peden Shield team which also won.
